The New New Normal (Updated Quarantine Hours)

Like all of us, we want to do our part to #KeepAthensCreative while socially distancing to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Our physical store has been closed to the public since March 9th, and during that time we have cleaned and sanitized and implemented more rigorous safety standards to protect our staff and our community.

But we remain open—virtually—to help you get through this quarantine with our selection of art supplies, craft materials, fine writing tools, stationery, and gifts.

You can visit us 24/7 at kaartist.com, and when you check-out you’ll be given three options:  Domestic ShippingLocal Delivery, and In-Store aka  Curbside Pickup.

  • Domestic Shipping is free for $100+ orders and flat-rate for smaller orders.
  • Local Delivery is free for $50+ orders and just $5 for smaller orders within a 5-mile radius. And if you‘re outside that radius but within 20-miles of the shop, we’ll deliver your $50+ orders for $1.50/mile. Orders will be delivered between 2-4pm each day.
  • In-Store aka Curbside Pickup is always free, and the available hours for this are 12-2pm each day.

We are also available with these limited shop hours to assist you by phone, text, and email. As of March 19th, we will be at the shop to answer the phone, respond to messages, fulfill your orders, and facilitate curbside pickup each day from 12-2 pm.

In summation, someone will be at the shop each day from 12-2, and we’ll be delivering locally from 2-4 every day.

We got this, Athens! Stay home, stay safe, stay creative, and we’ll all get through this together.

René Shoemaker

René Shoemaker is a contemporary artist focused on silk painting. Born in New York City, she maintains studios in Athens, GA, USA and Aubusson, France. Spanning four decades and embracing a variety of mediums, her artwork highlights a sense of place while capturing the ways spaces work together and how people inhabit and interact with those spaces. Architecture and public places are often highlighted in her work.

René received a B.F.A. from the University of Georgia (UGA), building a career of painting with dyes to create flowing, colorful work on radiant silk glowing with light. After retiring from her profession as a university librarian at UGA, René continued refining her art and sharing her techniques while discovering new ways to describe the world we collectively share.

Exhibiting in solo and group shows internationally, Shoemaker delights in exploring our everyday experiences through color and line. René has exhibited in museums in Georgia, Mississippi, and Paris and in galleries and public spaces in Georgia, New York, the UK, and France. Her solo exhibitions include museums in Georgia and Mississippi, where her work is held in permanent collections. Shoemaker was awarded the Fiber Forward Focus Fellowship from AIR Serenbe in Georgia, and 2024 exhibits are now scheduled in San Francisco, and Paris, and she will lead workshops in Athens, GA, San Francisco, CA and in a castle in southwest France.
