If you’ve been to downtown Athens, GA in the last two years, you’ve seen construction. The city is involved in a multi-year renovation project, and for good reason; the pipes below the surface were very old.

But most good projects (as we artists know) create a mess. For these past two years our street has been in what I’ll charitably call “disorder,” and our walkway seems to get narrower by the day.

We are thrilled to report that the end to all this upheaval is near—at least for Jackson St. (Clayton St. has their beautification portion of the program up next.)

In the meantime, don’t forget about our same-day, local delivery service. It’s $5 for small orders and free for orders $50+. Order by 2pm for delivery today!

René Shoemaker

René Shoemaker

René Shoemaker is a master silk painter, born in New York City, who maintains studios in Athens, GA, USA and Aubusson, France. Spanning four decades and embracing a variety of mediums, her artwork highlights a sense of place while capturing the ways spaces work together and how people inhabit and interact with those spaces.

René has exhibited in museums in Georgia, Mississippi, and Paris and in galleries and public spaces in Georgia, New York, the UK, and France. She teaches and speaks on silk painting, and in 2020 she received a Fiber Forward Focus Fellowship from AIR Serenbe in Georgia.
