Fall 2021 Session
  • This class meets once a week for four consecutive weeks.
  • Each class is from 6:30pm - 8:00pm.
Four Consecutive Tuesdays

October 19th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
October 26th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
November 2nd, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
November 9th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Week 1 - "Tools of the (Drawing) Trade: Getting to Know the Pencil, the Pen, and the Line Itself"

In this first class, we will familiarize ourselves with both the pencil and the pen. We will learn the qualities, attributes, and importance of both. We will then learn the fundamentals of the line: how it can be used to imply motion, evoke emotion, and how lines can be used to create shadows (as well as how the absence of line can create the illusion of light).

Week 2 - "Lines on the Inside"

In this class we will explore how everything, but specifically plants and animals, is built on an architecture of lines, and we'll discuss how being able to "see" this structure of lines and how it corresponds with the exterior form will make our renderings not only easier, but more convincing!

Week 3 - "Giving Our Drawings Form: Shapes, Shadows, Textures, and Context"

Beginning with a rudimentary line drawing, we will examine the forms therein and learn how to accentuate them using various techniques including cross-hatching, stippling, and shading.

Week 4 - "Still Life Drawing"

We will take what we have learned thus far and apply it to creating a simple rendering of an assemblage of objects with various shapes, contours, and negative spaces using either pen or pencil (artist's choice)!
