Watercolor Lessons: Painting from Life
This class meets for 2 consecutive Mondays, from 6-8pm.

This is a great class for those who have never painted with watercolors before, as well as those who would like more practice.
We've created a discounted supply kit for the class. If you don't already have these supplies, please purchase this kit along with your class registration. The kit will be ready for you when you come to class.
Lesson One: Fruits and Flowers
Using an assortment of fruits and flowers as our subjects the first lesson we will focus on the following:
- Mixing colors and getting to know the materials
- Using the white of the paper
- Wet-n-wet vs. dry brush technique
Lesson Two: Still-Life
For this lesson we will be focusing on creating an environment using familiar objects as our still life. We will focus on the following:
- Shading with watercolor
- Washes and graded washes
- Lifting color by blotting
- Continuing wet-n-wet and dry brush technique
Lesson Three: Bring in an Object from Home
We will focus on the following:
- Light Source
- Incorporating pencil marks
- Hue, Value, Saturation, and Intensity
Lesson Four: Plant Life
We'll introduce new materials and techniques:
- Painting with Salt
- Drawing on top of watercolor
- Using a toothbrush
We need four students to make this class happen, so bring a friend!
Katherine Dunlap attended University of Georgia and graduated with a BFA, emphasis in Painting and Drawing. Since then, Katherine has exhibited in several places around Athens including the Civic Center and Lyndon House, in addition to giving private lessons. Katherine enjoys painting with friends, assisting at Good Dirt and Athens local coffee shops. In this class, Katherine will introduce beginners to watercolor techniques they could use while painting from life.
