Private Lettering Lesson

Private lessons are a great way to dive head first into the world of lettering! With the individual attention of experienced calligrapher Kristen Ashley, you will learn a useful new skill that can carry over into many areas of your life.  Private lessons are all about you and what your personal goals are -- We can focus on pointed dip pen calligraphy, brush lettering, envelope addressing, or even improving your everyday handwriting. If you have a specific project in mind that you would like assistance and guidance on, we're open to whatever your needs may be!

While we, of course, customize each private lesson to fit the students' own experience level, interests, and goals... a beginners' class typically covers things like:

• what is modern calligraphy?
• the materials and how to use them
• basic practice strokes
• how to form letters and words and phrases
• flourishes
• using different inks, papers, and nibs
• "fake calligraphy" with normal pens and brush markers
• various applications, like envelopes or chalkboards

For more experienced calligraphers, we'll try out the metallic watercolors, use a variety of nibs, and discuss more in-depth how to create our own signature alphabets. Just let us know what you'd like to learn!

A typical class lasts 2 hours and can be scheduled when you want it, any day of the week, between the hours of 11am and 9pm. We ask for at least one-week advance notice, and dates and times are subject to availability. You can extend your lesson for just $30/hour, and bring a friend for just $10 per person per lesson.
