Summer Art Camps

General Info

For ages 12-15, we call our summer camps "Art Camps for Promising Young Artists" because we love to support the creative development of students who have a keen interest in visual arts. Whether your child is passionate about a particular medium or interested in learning all kinds of art-making methods, we will encourage their growth as a creative, young person.

All of our camps take place in-person for one week, Monday through Friday, for four hours each day. We offer two camps per day: an AM session and a PM session.

Shop owner Kristen Ashley directs each camp with the help of the Artist Shop team. Our lessons and activities will be led by an impressive roster of local artists with various specialties.

What to Expect

Each camp is unique, but each follows the same general structure. Every camp will feature lessons in drawing, painting, three-dimensional design, graphic design, illustration, calligraphy, composition, color theory, creative journaling, and visual story-telling. Our students will learn from some of Athens, Georgia's finest local artists, and we'll offer a bounty of supplies for them to try (plus they're welcome to bring their own supplies if desired). The vibe will be encouraging and supportive with lots of inspirational prompts.

Throughout the week there will be free time for games and reading, and the students will work both in small groups and solo. To make sure everyone gets their Vitamin D, we'll take the class to the North Lawn of UGA for plein air sketching each chance we get.

Each week will culminate in the making of one "final piece" that will incorporate several key lessons and takeaways from the camp. If your child would like, we will proudly display their work in our online gallery.


Each camp is held Monday through Friday for four hours each day. We offer two camps per day, an AM and PM session. Students who register for both AM and PM in the same week will receive a discount, and they're welcome to stay through the interim.

AM Camps: 8:30-12:30
PM Camps: 1:30-5:30

Week 1: June 7 - 11
Week 2: June 14 - 18
Week 3: June 21 - 25
Week 4: July 12 - 16
Week 5: July 19 - 23


Half-day camps (individual AM or PM sessions) cost $250/week. That works out to $12.50/hour! Full-day camps (AM and PM sessions combined) cost $450/week. That works out to $10/hour!

All materials are included; there will be no additional costs.

In addition to the discount on full-day camps, we offer multi-camp discounts when you sign up for two or more camps of any kind. These discounts can be found near the "Add to Cart" button on the camp page, and they're automatic (no coupon codes needed).

How to Register

To reserve your spot, add this camp to your shopping cart and check-out online. Make sure you choose AM Session, PM Session, or Full-Day. All multi-camp discounts are automatic; no coupon codes are needed.

▶︎ Did the week numbers and camp dates recently change?

Yep, we recently condensed our summer schedule from eight weeks of camp down to to five weeks. We updated the dates for Week 1-5 camps and informed anyone who had previously registered of this change. What you’re seeing on our site is the new, correct set of dates.

▶︎ Is each camp week the same?

All of our camps are similar in structure, in that each camp will include lessons in drawing, painting, three-dimensional design, graphic design, illustration, calligraphy, composition, color theory, creative journaling, and visual story-telling. However, every camp will have unique lessons and activities. Your student can sign up for multiple camps and expect to learn many new things each week!

▶︎ Can my student do digital art?

Yes! We welcome pretty much all visual art-making materials, tablets included. We will have teachers and staff menbers on hand who also make digital art, but your student should come to camp with knowledge of how to use their digital device and drawing program.

▶︎ My child is 11 but very mature; can they enroll?

Yes! Our camps are designed for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers. We will be flexible with our age range for 11 year-olds who are eager to learn.

▶︎ Can I get a discount for multiple camps?

Yes! We have a built-in discount when you sign up for both an AM Camp and a PM Camp in the same week. Additionally, you'll automatically receive a discount when you sign up for two or more camps. This automatic discount works whether you’re registering a single student for multiple camps or multiple students for the same camp. You'll find these discounts near the "Add to Cart" button on each camp page.

▶︎ What are your Covid-19 protocols for camp?

We have a strict "masks-on" policy at the shop, so students will need to wear masks while indoors. When we go outside, we will find spacious areas so that the students can remove their masks while outdoors. We clean the shop regularly and will limit the number of students in each room so that everyone has plenty of space.

▶︎ What does my student need to bring?

Each student will need to bring a bottle for water and a lunch for AM camps and a snack for PM camps. We also recommend that they bring a towel for when we sit outside. If you student has some favorite art supplies or a tablet for digital art, they may bring those as well. But other than that, everything is included!

▶︎ What is your camp cancellation policy?

We understand that things happen and you may not be able to attend the camp you purchased. If your plans change, please let us know at least 18 days before your scheduled camp begins. If you cancel or switch to another camp with at least 18 days notice, we will issue a full monetary refund to your original form of payment. We cannot offer refunds after the 18-day-mark, but we will put half of your enrollment fee into our scholarship fund and issue the other half to you as store credit. Regretfully, we cannot issue refunds for no-shows. Please reach out to us if you need to cancel or reschedule your camp.

▶︎ Is there a minimum number of students who need to be enrolled for a camp to happen?

Yes, we need four students to enroll for camp to happen. On the chance that a camp doesn't meet this minimum enrollment, we will inform all enrolled contacts two weeks before the first day of camp. We'll of course refund you in full, and we'll send you a gift card to boot. However, we don't expect this to happen this year. We know many of you are very excited for in-person camps again, so please sign-up early!
